MLA | SLA '23 Financial Support

Attending a conference is a professionally rewarding experience. MLA | SLA '23 offers many opportunities for you to build a professional network, learn about the latest research, and participate in discussions about issues affecting the profession. Take advantage of this new travel grant to support your MLA | SLA ’23 conference attendance. Also, be sure to check with your local chapters for additional funding opportunities.

MLA | SLA '23 Annual Conference Travel Grant

MLA is pleased to offer ten travel grants to enable MLA and SLA members to attend the annual conference in Detroit. Funds of up to $1,000 each, for travel and conference-related expenses, will be given to MLA and SLA members who might otherwise be unable to attend the conference.

These grants are generously sponsored by Elsevier ClinicalKey.

Eligibility

  • Applicant must: 
    • be a member of MLA or SLA, with 2023 dues paid by March 31.
    • be currently employed as an information professional.
    • complete the online application, including a 200-word statement answering the question, “What do you expect to gain professionally and/or personally by attending the MLA | SLA '23 conference?”
    • have not received an in-person conference travel grants in the last ten years (2013-2022).
  • Members that have received vConference grants in the past are eligible to apply.
  • No more than one (1) awardee from any given institution will be awarded a travel grant in a single year. (including the EBSCO and Bertolucci grants) 

Priority Consideration Criteria

  • Applicant is presenting (or has submitted) a paper, immersion session, poster, or lightning talk at MLA | SLA '23 conference. 

Terms

  • Recipients will be reimbursed up to $1,000 in actual travel and conference related expenses after the conference; expense statements and receipts must be submitted to MLA after the annual conference. 
  • Members that have received an in-person travel grants in the last ten year are not eligible to apply.
  • Members that have received vConference grants in the past are eligible to apply.
  • Letters of reference are NOT requested or desired.
  • The travel grant:
    • must be used in the year it is awarded and cannot be carried over to another year.
    • may not be used for virtual-only conference registration.
    • is non-transferable.
