MLA ’20 vConference General Information

Working from home? Unable to travel? Join your colleagues, friends and vendors for the MLA ‘20 vConference, a full-featured experience of virtual learning and networking.

Announcing MLA ’20 Virtual Conference with interactive sessions, gatherings, and exhibits.

We won’t see you in Portland in 2020 (all large gatherings cancelled through September; see May 7 announcement), but we invite you to participate in a robust and exciting program that your 2020 National Program Committee and MLA team have been designing to plan for this scenario.

MLA Gatherings: Open without vConference Registration

Stay connected. Join your MLA colleagues to learn about the exciting ways in which MLA is growing to serve you better. Each presentation introduces the MLA community to the most recent activities, tools, and accomplishments in the organization and allows participants to engage on important issues during this critical time.

Join us for MLA vConnections: Association Member Series:

MLA Business Meeting: The meeting will include reports from MLA’s treasurer and executive director, announcement of election results, approval of community annual reports, and information about the state of the association and future initiatives.

Wed May 20, 2:30–3:30 p.m.

Community Council Meeting: Annual business meeting that will include a short meet and greet with MLA leaders, a communities’ policies discussion, and a presentation by incoming Chair Adela V. Justice, AHIP.

Thu May 21, 1:00–2:00 p.m.

Chapter Council Meeting: Annual business meeting will feature reports from Chair Donna R. Berryman, AHIP, and from various chapter council liaisons to MLA committees.

Open Forums

Tue May 26, 1:00–2:00 p.m.

Open Forum 1: Communities: This meeting will highlight the many accomplishments made by MLA members during this transitional year. Available resources and details on future plans will be shared with community leaders.

Tue June 2, 1:00–2:00 p.m.

Open Forum 2: Diversity Equity, Inclusion (DEI): A survey to ascertain the association’s demographic makeup and gather members’ perceptions about diversity, equity, and inclusion in MLA was sent last year. Join task force chair Sandra G. Franklin, AHIP, FMLA, and task force member JJ Pionke in a discussion about the DEI survey results.

Tue June 9, 1:00–2:00 p.m.

Open Forum 3: Annual Meeting Innovation: As the outreach and recommendations of the Annual Meeting Innovation Task Force comes to a close, COVID-19 disruptions have accelerated the changes to the MLA annual meeting.

Open Forum 4: Education: A presentation on MLA education, including a demonstration of new self-paced online courses, and a Q&A.

Open Forum 5: Publications: An opportunity for structured discussion about MLA publications and exchange of ideas.

Awards and Recognitions

Caucus Gatherings

You can still get together, though you will need to pour your own beverage.

MLA will schedule open forty-five-minute social gatherings for all caucuses. Join and mingle if you can.

Committee Meetings We have been meeting online already, so let’s keep doing that.

Full access to MLA online courses through December 31, 2020

Extend your virtual learning experience by accessing all of MLA’s online curriculum through December 31, 2020, by subscribing to the new CE Passport. This includes:

  • 40+ live and prerecorded webinars, including all upcoming 2020 webinars
  • 4+ self-paced courses, including all new self-paced courses published in 2020 (estimate of 12 total)
  • 31 of the courses are approved for CNE credit

Registration Rates for the vConference and CE Passport

MLA is retooling its registration systems to allow the conversion of existing registrations to alternate packages and to accept new registrations. 

All new registrations and requests for modifications or refunds to existing registrations will be accepted after the retooling period (June 1, subject to change).

No charge “hardship” is reserved for MLA members who are unemployed, recently furloughed, or experiencing special circumstances, all subject to review and approval by MLA.

Specific “hardship” criteria and requirements will be announced by June 1.

We want to make it as easy as possible for you to select the best option to convert your existing registration, with minimal administrative pain for you (and MLA).
