Portland: City of Books

Portland is well-known as a city for book lovers, boasting the world’s largest independent bookstore, Powell’s City of Books (just 1.5 miles from the conference convention center). With over 30 independent bookstores in Portland, there is something for everyone in Portland including minority-owned, hobby shops, the occult, and even a joint bookstore pub.   • Annie Bloom's Books is a general interest book and gift store, offering many locally produced goods.
  • Broadway Books is a woman-owned general interest bookstore selling new and used books.
  • Daedalus Books is a used bookstore offering a wide variety including art history, literary theory, theology, poetry, natural history, and more.
  • Mother Foucault's Bookshop is a used bookstore offering a wide variety of philosophy, arts, literary, and poetry titles, including rare and vintage books.


  • Bishop & Wilde Books is a Queer-owned bookstore committed to offering a queer space for their community. Their collection emphasizes local and regional fiction.
