Official Meeting Blogger: Health Literacy Posters at MLA ’19

Given the almost 200 posters at MLA ‘19, I knew I needed to narrow my focus to get the most out of the sessions. I browsed the list of poster titles, looking for new trends or phrases that reappeared. One of those that caught my eye was health literacy. I was impressed by the variety of innovative projects focused on communicating and promoting health information and improving patient understanding. And I had some great conversations with the presenters. Here are a few posters that explore the ways librarians are involved in health literacy, patient education, and consumer health:

  • A Natural Fit: Expanding the Librarian’s Role in Health Literacy and Patient Education (Melynda Ozan)
  • All of Us Research Program and Your Health Educational Events at Sam Houston State University (Lisa Connor)
  • Health Literacy Challenges and Opportunities: Bringing Children’s Mercy Hospital and Kansas City Together (Jennifer Lyon, Angela Knackstedt, Mamta Reddy, Barbara Rudder, and Courtney Butler)
  • Health Literacy of Refugee Populations (Margaret Zimmerman)
  • Health Seminars: Supporting Patient Education, Engagement, and Improving Health Literacy (Antonio P. DeRosa and Judy Stribling)

If you attended MLA ‘19 or registered for the e-conference, check out the Online Program and search the ePoster Gallery for “health literacy” or  “patient education.”
