University Librarian

Oregon Institute of Technology (Oregon Tech), one of the top western US public regional universities and consistently ranked among top undergraduate engineering programs by US News & World Report, invites inquiries, nominations, and applications for the position of university librarian. Oregon Tech offers innovative and rigorous degree programs through its two colleges, the College of Health, Arts and Sciences and Engineering, Technology and Management, as well as through its online programs. 

It is an exciting time for the institute with new leadership in the ranks of president and provost and a bold strategic vision for growth and development. The university librarian will report to the provost and vice president of Academic Affairs and provide dynamic and engaged leadership by working closely with the faculty, staff, students, and other key internal and external stakeholders. The university librarian is expected to elevate the level of excellence of Oregon Tech’s renowned high-quality, hands-on, and profession-oriented education nurturing our students to be career-ready professionals. 

The university librarian provides vision and leadership to the libraries faculty and staff as well as libraries:

  • Provide leadership, decision, and policy making, and overall management of and strategic planning for library
  • Communicate and advocate for consortial implementation of library systems, technology, and libraries facilities
  • Work collaboratively to provide on information and communication technologies
  • Initiate and expand collaboration and partnerships with external stakeholders
  • Coordinate evaluation and improvement of library facilities and spaces utilization
  • Lead budget development and management for libraries
  • Initiate and lead grant development, fundraising, and external funding opportunities
  • Oversee planning and implementation of library services for all campuses, locations, and online learning
  • Supervise library faculty and staff for all campuses, locations, and online learning

Required Qualifications:

  • American Library Association (ALA)–accredited master’s of library or information science (MLS/MLIS) degree
  • At least 10 years’ professional experience in increasingly responsible positions in academic libraries, including administrative responsibilities
  • Demonstrated success in leadership
  • Proven fiscal management experience for materials and personnel budgets
  • Effective communication, negotiation, and consensus-building skills
  • A strong commitment to the educational role of the library
  • A clear understanding of both information technology and information literacy and their changing roles in higher education
  • Experience in strategic planning

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Doctorate (PhD) or second master's degree
  • Experience with university and library assessment
  • Successful grant writing and fund raising

Salary Information: $105,000. Oregon Tech offers competitive salaries with excellent benefits including comprehensive health care, a generous retirement package, and significant tuition discounts at the 7 public universities in Oregon. Salary will be commensurate with candidate’s experience.
