MLA ’21 to Include Full Virtual Offering

Submitted by Tara Douglas-Williams, AHIP, Cochair, 2021 National Program Committee; Neville D. Prendergast, Cochair, 2021 National Program Committee; Lisa K. Traditi, AHIP, MLA President, and Kevin Baliozian, MLA Executive Director

Planning for a future conference in the era of COVID-19 remains a challenge because of the uncertainty related to the ability to meet in-person. MLA is also aware that health information professionals and their employers are excluding travel for the first half of 2021 because of budget reductions, continued travel restrictions, and the perceived increased realization by all stakeholders that COVID-19 will continue to be a major disruptor through 2021.

MLA announces that the MLA ’21 annual meeting experience will include a virtual component that builds on the success of the MLA ’20 vConference and Exhibits, with improvements based on feedback and lessons learned.

We have not ruled out a pared-down in-person component in Washington, DC, in May 2021 at the Marriott Wardman Park Hotel, should the hotel venue reopen and Washington, DC, restrictions on meeting sizes be removed. The in-person experience, should it take place, will be an option that will supplement the main vConference and Exhibits.

Please go to MLANET for general information on the meeting, including a detailed schedule and preliminary pricing.

We look forward to your involvement in making MLA ’21 an outstanding experience.

MLA '21 Timeline

* In-person events, if maintained, would occur during the originally scheduled days May 24 to 26 (schedule subject to change).

Call for Submissions (Immersion or Paper Sessions)

Extended to November 5, 2020
No in-person required
Don’t worry about registration funding

We are extending the first call for submissions by two weeks to allow you to submit if you had opted out because you could not attend the in-person meeting. We encourage you to submit your session, because you will be able to present virtually (no in-person required).

Don’t let uncertainty about your funding to attend the MLA ’21 vConference get in the way of submitting your session. MLA ’21 vConference registration rates will remain significantly lower than in-person, and MLA will continue to have no-charge registrations for those needing financial support (presenters get priority).
