Couldn't make it to MLA | SLA '23 in person or visit the MLA booth in the exhibit hall? Don't fret! I've got you covered. While MLA | SLA '23 had much to offer last week from contributed content sessions (virtual and in person) to games and prizes in the exhibit hall, a unique experience was reconnecting with MLA at their booth.
Available in the northwest corner of the MLA | SLA’23 exhibit hall, the MLA Connections and Anniversary Booth invited attendees to relax, reconnect, and reflect. On display in the booth were past-years memorabilia of photos, buttons, shot glasses, t-shirts, and stuffed bears, to name a few; along with archives from the Bulletin of the Medical Library Association historical archives (1911-2001), the precursor to today’s Journal of the Medical Library Association. Past-annual meeting mugs, 100-year commemorative coasters, and 75-year commemorative medallions were free for those wishing to expand their MLA collectibles. A timeline and historical quotes further showcased the organization’s quasquicentennial anniversary.
Tables invited members to relax and chat, while an anniversary-inspired photobooth and props encouraged new friends to capture memories and old friends to gather in celebration. Those who stopped by could enter a daily drawing for an AHIP membership fee waiver or participate in a daily survey from the MLA’s 125-Year Retrospective Task Force.
Additional exhibit panels invited attendees to connect with MLA through Caucuses, regional Chapters, and Professional Advancement opportunities (CE passport, specializations, AHIP credentialing, mentoring, and MLA grants and awards).
