Health and Life Sciences Librarian

Auburn University Libraries seeks an innovative, enthusiastic, and user-focused individual to serve as the Health and Life Sciences Librarian (posting number P1661F). Reporting to the Head of Innovation & Research Support, the successful candidate will support research, teaching, and outreach for the College of Nursing and other health/life sciences-related programs. This twelve-month tenure-track position requires professional and scholarly activity as well as service on library and university committees.

Position Responsibilities

Major Responsibilities:

  • Serves as liaison and provides outreach to students, staff, and faculty in the College of Nursing and other health and life sciences-related programs at Auburn University.
  • Provides subject-specific research assistance to support teaching, learning, and research in assigned liaison areas in the College of Nursing and health and life sciences-related departments.
  • Develops, implements, and assesses outcome-based information literacy instruction sessions and online instructional materials for the assigned subject areas.
  • Provides support for evidence syntheses to faculty and graduate students in the College of Nursing.
  • Engages in collection development, management, and assessment for assigned subject areas.
  • Provides general reference services, both virtual and in-person, for the University community and the general public.
  • Maintains current awareness of issues, trends, standards, and best practices in higher education and the library and information science profession, including those related to research and educational technologies and scholarly communication.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Master of Library and Information Science degree or equivalent from an ALA-accredited institution at the time of employment.
  • A degree in the life or health sciences, or professional experience providing library services in these disciplines.
  • Knowledge of information resources in the health and/or life sciences. Strong commitment to excellence in user service and improving the Minimum Qualifications user experience.
  • Adaptability, flexibility, and willingness to engage in continuous learning to meet the changing needs of library users.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills; strong and effective written communication skills.
  • Potential to meet university promotion and tenure requirements for library faculty.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Strong organizational skills with an ability to successfully handle multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Ability to work both independently as well as collegially and productively in a team environment.
  • Experience providing research assistance, instruction, collection development, and/or liaison services in an academic library or special library setting.
  • Experience creating content and delivering instruction online.
  • Experience with supporting evidence syntheses such as systematic reviews, scoping reviews, and/or meta-analyses.
  • Experience supporting the research and scholarly communication needs of faculty and graduate students, such as activities related to data management, data analysis, or open access.
  • An advanced degree in health or life sciences.
  • A record of professional, scholarly research activity.

 

Salary Information: Minimum salary of $60,000 for an Assistant Professor. Rank and salary will be commensurate with experience/qualifications. This is a twelve-month tenure-track position.

Benefits: Benefits include 20 days of vacation leave/12 days of sick leave per year; participation in State Teachers’ Retirement System (mandatory); additional voluntary retirement plans available; health/dental/life/disability insurance.
