Associate Director of Collections, Health Sciences Library

The University of Louisville (UofL) Kornhauser Health Sciences Library (KHSL) invites applications from dynamic, self-directed, and experienced professional to join our team as the Associate Director of Collections. The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in enhancing access to information resources, managing collections, and implementing strategic initiatives to promote the library's resources. This is a 12-month, tenure-track position with full benefits.

This position will oversee the development, management, and assessment of the library's collections, ensuring alignment with the institution's educational and research goals. Collaborate with faculty, researchers, and other stakeholders to assess information needs and curate collections that support their teaching, learning, and research activities. Implement innovative strategies to enhance access to digital resources, including electronic journals, databases, and e-books, while ensuring compliance with copyright and licensing agreements. Conduct user surveys, usability studies, and data analysis to assess user needs, preferences, and satisfaction levels, using insights to inform collection development and marketing strategies. Provide leadership and supervision to library staff involved in collection management and fostering a collaborative and service-oriented work environment.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in Library and Information Science from an ALA-accredited program, with a focus on health sciences librarianship preferred.
  • Scholarship and service representative of the rank of Assistant Professor
  • Minimum of 2 years’ experience in libraries, including some combination of demonstrated expertise in areas of collection development and acquisitions.
  • Ability to manage complex collections budgets, negotiate vendor contracts, and assess the value and impact of library resources.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build relationships, collaborate with diverse stakeholders, and advocate for the library's mission and services.
  • Proficiency with library systems and knowledge of current and emerging technologies in collection development.
  • Supervisory experience that demonstrates an ability to lead and manage library professionals and support staff.

Desirable Qualifications:

  • Experience working in an academic health sciences or medical library environment.
  • Strong understanding of current trends and best practices in health sciences librarianship, scholarly communication, and information literacy
  • Knowledge of emerging trends and technologies in health informatics, data management, and scholarly publishing.
  • Experience with discovery and integrated library systems (ILS), and electronic resource management (ERM). Experience with EBSCO Discovery, OCLC, and WMS is preferred. 
    • Familiarity with evidence-based practice principles and resources used in clinical decision-making.
    • Experience developing and implementing marketing strategies, including content creation, social media management, and event promotion.

 

Salary Information: $60,000 minimum
