MLA Competencies for Lifelong Learning & Professional Success

Professional competencies identify essential professional skills and abilities that can be observed, measured, and taught. Course listings include tags for each competency area (some may have more than one) and Instructors must use the competencies when they submit a course for approval to offer MLA CE credit.

Specializations

MLA specializations help you obtain an additional level of expertise in a specific health information field that you can use to further your career and become more valuable in your workplace. Complete an approved curriculum of courses and earn one of MLA’s specializations.

  • Consumer Health Information Specialization (CHIS): improve your health information services for consumers and  find new resources and ideas to serve the public, patients, and families. Apply today for MLA’s Consumer Health Information Specialization.
  • Data Services Specialization (DSS): gain recognition for the accomplishment of acquiring skills in providing data services to researchers and others who work with data. A Basic DSS certificate is available now. An Advanced DSS certificate is planned for 2021.
  • Systematic Review Services Specialization (SRSS): Earning a Systematic Review Services Specialization (SRSS) shows employers and colleagues that you have the information retrieval and management skills to support users and researchers in conducting high quality and reproducible systematic reviews.

MEDLIB-ED

MEDLIB-ED hosts MLA’s education courses and other courses that have been approved for MLA credit in a single location for all health information professionals. MEDLIB-ED is an online environment with integrated tools and resources for all MLA learners and instructors; accessible anytime and from anywhere on any device.
