There are lots of variables at play with these nominees. Two (Lindsay and Basia) who don’t match the publicized criteria for the awards. Then, Helen-Ann scores one point below Basia and the reviewers didn’t have Helen-Ann’s CV to read. Personally, I think Helen-Ann would score above anyone considered if her complete accomplishments were reviewed. Just yesterday, one of my hospital library directors spontaneously started talking about Helen-Ann, and I was surprised she had any awareness of Helen-Ann. So, I lean towards thinking that if the jury is going to apply extra grace to any one of these nominees, we should apply extra grace to all three of them.
