Obituary: David W. Boilard, AHIP

David W. Boilard, AHIP, passed away on May 29, 2026, at age 78, surrounded by family. A longtime member of the Medical Library Association and the Academy of Health Information Professionals (AHIP), he devoted nearly four decades to health sciences librarianship, access to health information, and medical education. 

A Vietnam veteran, David earned a bachelor’s degree from Westfield State College, where he was a founding member of the Historical Journal of Western Massachusetts, before completing master’s degrees in library science and public health. His career included leadership and teaching roles at medical school libraries in South Dakota, North Dakota, Ohio, and Florida. He retired in 2014 from Florida International University’s College of Medicine, where he served as assistant dean and senior faculty member. 

He is remembered by colleagues, friends, and family for his generosity, service, and commitment to the profession.
