Join MLA in Observing the Juneteenth Holiday
Submitted by: Shannon Glover, AHIP, AAMLA Chair
The Medical Library Association (MLA) joins communities across the United States in observing Juneteenth, which commemorates June 19, 1865—the day when the last enslaved African Americans in Texas learned of their freedom.
Juneteenth is a time to reflect on the enduring significance of this moment in American history and to honor the resilience, contributions, and achievements of Black communities. It also serves as a reminder of the ongoing work to advance equity, inclusion, and justice within our society and our profession.
MLA remains committed to fostering an open, fair, diverse, and collaborative environment within MLA and the profession. As we recognize Juneteenth, we encourage members to take time to learn, reflect, and engage in meaningful dialogue and action that supports these shared values.
We invite all members to join us in honoring this important day.
