Health Literacy Month Outreach Best Practices: A Look Back at Health Literacy Month 2025 Programs and Outreach

October is Health Literacy Month, and we are sure many of you have planned events to promote health literacy. Join the Consumer and Patient Health Information Services Caucus (CAPHIS) on Wednesday, November 12, at Noon, central time, via Zoom to hear about health literacy month outreach initiatives from Health Literacy Month 2025  and have the chance to share your own experiences.

Dana Ladd, PhD, AHIP-D, Virginia Commonwealth University Libraries, Health and Wellness Librarian will start off the session with an overview of her library’s health literacy outreach program.  The library collaborated with the hospital’s Patient Education and Professional Development department to visit hospital units and inpatient facilities with a mobile health literacy cart, where they promoted health literacy to patients, family members, healthcare providers, and staff.  Dana will share details of the health literacy mobile cart and lessons learned.

Following, attendees will have the opportunity to ask questions and share about their own experiences with October 2025 health literacy programming. Participants who wish to present about their own programming will have 5 to 10 minutes to talk about their projects and are free to share slides.  Please contact Shawn Steidinger, CAPHIS Chair at shawn.steidinger@utah.edu so we can coordinate your slides.
