Do You Have a Story to Tell? Be a Living Library Book!
Submitted by: Ahlam Saleh
Why Be a Book?
Everyone has a story worth sharing. Our personal experiences can spark meaningful conversations, foster understanding, and build connections. Just like a traditional book opens minds, becoming a Living Library book allows you to do the same—through dialogue.
Would you like to share your story in a welcoming space? Whether it’s a unique life journey, a professional challenge, or a personal insight, your story could help others see the world from a new perspective.
What to Expect as a Living Library Book
- Participation Options: Books can join virtual Living Library events, in-person sessions at conferences, or both.
- Format: Each session begins with a five-minute introduction by the book, followed by a Q&A-style conversation with readers. This is not a lecture—it’s an interactive exchange.
- Comfort & Boundaries: Books share only what they’re comfortable discussing. You’re free to set limits on what you talk about.
- Multiple Titles: Books can represent more than one experience or perspective. Readers choose which title to check out.
- Starter Questions: Books provide a few questions to help readers begin the conversation.
- Optional Resources: Books may bring articles, books, or handouts to share, especially for in-person events.
Examples of Book Topics
Books have shared experiences related to:
- Various abilities and body sizes
- Social and geographic backgrounds
- Living with medical or mental health conditions
