MLA Elections
Each year, MLA members vote on leaders who will guide the organization, including the incoming president-elect, board of directors members, and the next year’s nominating committee.
Annually MLA holds elections for the incoming president-elect, board of directors members, and nominating committee members.
- President-elect and board candidates are selected by the current Nominating Committee, chaired by MLA’s Past-President.
- The future Nominating Committee candidate slate is selected by three groups: Community Council (based on nominations from caucuses), Chapter Council (based on nominations from chapters), and the MLA Board of Directors.
Who Votes in MLA Elections?
Based on MLA’s Bylaws and Board of Directors Membership Policy (member login required to view), voting members are individual, emeritus, student, and international members who are current (2025) members and who have been an MLA member for at least one year. The payment grace extension for 2025 through the end of March extended discounts and caucus access, but did not extend national ballot voting rights.
