MLA Disaster Relief Fund supports medical libraries throughout the world as they re-build after natural and man-made disasters.

Shaping Our Future Endowment Fund supports initiatives identified in the Association's annual business plan.

The MLA Scholarship Fund consists of donations generously provided through bequests, planned giving, and individual contributions. It supports a variety of scholarships and professional development grants, including:

This award is given to a member of the association who has made significant contributions to the profession through overall distinction or leadership in hospital library administration or service, production of a definitive publication related to hospital librarianship, teaching, research, advocacy, or the development or application of innovative technology to hospital librarianship.

The award acknowledges excellence in health information professional services to patients, caregivers, and those pursuing optimal health, through the promotion of innovation, collaboration, and exemplary leadership among consumer health information librarians.

The inaugural fellowship was granted in 1972. This program persists in educating and inspiring international librarians with the latest advancements in the health information profession. It facilitates attendance at the MLA annual conference and includes observation and supervised work in one or more medical libraries in the United States and Canada.

The award recognizes an academic health sciences librarian at mid-career who has demonstrated significant achievement, the potential for leadership, and continuing excellence. 

The award honors a health sciences information professional who has demonstrated outstanding leadership in the area of governmental relations at the federal, state, or local level, and who has furthered the goal of providing quality information for improved health.

The fellowship encourages research into the history of information sciences to expand the knowledge base and improve the current and future practices of information professions, especially in health sciences librarianship and health informatics.

The grant provides health science professionals working in hospital, or similar clinical settings, with the support needed for educational or research activities.

The lectureship is awarded to individuals for their unique perspectives on the history or philosophy of health sciences librarianship. The lecture is presented each year at the MLA annual conference.

This lectureship is awarded to a significant national or international figure who may speak on a topic of importance to health sciences librarianship at the association's annual meeting.

The lectureship was created to foster intellectual collaboration between MLA and the National Library of Medicine (NLM). The lecture is presented biennially at the association's annual conference and in alternating years at NLM. Lecturers are selected for their expertise in discussing topics related to biomedical communications.

The fellowship aims to study a specific aspect of health information management. It provides supplementary funding to cover expenses for visiting (in-person and/or virtually) two or more health sciences libraries or knowledge centers in North America.

This fellowship funds research aimed at expanding the knowledge base and linking the information services provided by librarians to improved healthcare and advancements in biomedical research. It is awarded to qualified health professionals, researchers, educators, administrators, or librarians.

Established in 1988, this award is presented annually to honor outstanding achievements in collection development within the health sciences.

The award recognizes excellence by an MLA chapter for a special project or innovative programming that contributes to the profession of health sciences librarianship.

The award honors an outstanding practicing information professional or library educator in the field of health sciences librarianship and informatics.

Awarded to a member interested in Latinx community information services who seeks to engage in professional activities using the latest medical information services and technological formats.

Recognizes exceptional individual achievements in advancing the quality of health information on an international scale through the development of health information professionals, enhancement of libraries, or increased utilization of health information services.

This scholarship is intended to support the education and training of a US or Canadian health sciences librarian for an international health sciences library project.

Provides travel support for a librarian involved in nursing, allied health, consumer health, or international librarianship to attend MLA’s in-person annual conference.

The Medical Library Association’s Research Training Institute is an online program offering advanced research methods training and support for library professionals to complete their chosen projects. This unique and effective program helps health sciences librarians become successful researchers and authors.
