This class focuses on the NIH Data Management and Sharing Policy. The class will provide training on the DMPTool to librarians who help researchers with data management and policy adherence.
Learners will be introduced to the concepts of data management, the research data lifecycle, the FAIR principles of working with data, data policy information, and preparing a data management plan via the DMPTool. Throughout, there will be an emphasis on the importance of data management for research (longevity, impact, ethics), publishing, and policy compliance. Learners will follow along on the DMPTool website as instructors walk step-by-step through the process of creating a DMPTool account and using it to create a data management plan. This will include an analysis of each part of a successful data management plan (data types, data standards, metadata, policies, sharing plans, preservation plans, and budget).
