MLA seeks to establish global partnerships and support the information needs of underserved individuals throughout the world. The association is pleased to recognize members and colleagues who strive to educate and network with practitioners on an international basis. Their work makes a difference by advocating for access to information and helping to set standards for global health information management.
MLA is now seeking submissions for its 2024 international-focused awards, scholarships, and fellowships.

The 2023 T. Mark Hodges International Service Award is presented to Karin Saric. Saric is an information professional who consistently works within global settings to train others on how to access and interpret information. She’s had a tremendous impact on promoting access to health information through her international instruction efforts on HINARI and other key health information resources. Both domestically and internationally, Saric is known to develop deep collaborations with global colleagues to ensure that the content she is delivering is at the level that is needed and to leave her collaborators equipped to carry on in capacity development.
The T. Mark Hodges International Service Award honors an outstanding individual achievement in promoting, enabling, and/or delivering improvements in the quality of health information internationally. Members and nonmember colleagues are encouraged to submit a nomination for the 2024 award by October 15, 2023.
Dominic Dankwah Agyei, University of Health and Allied Sciences, University Library, Ho, Volta Region, Ghana is the 2024 Cunningham Fellow. Agyei looks forward to the fellowship opportunities for supervised work in several US medical libraries and attending the annual conference in Portland, Oregon.
The purpose of the Cunningham Memorial International Fellowship is to assist in the education and training of health science librarians from countries outside the United States and Canada. This is a three week fellowship planned and coordinated by the MLA International Cooperation Caucus members. Librarians working outside the US and Canada are encouraged to apply for 2025 fellowship by November 15, 2023.
Jamie Furrh Quinn is the 2023 Librarians without Borders® Ursula Poland International Scholarship recipient. Quinn’s project provides an opportunity to extend her collaboration with nursing faculty and students who are participating in a Baylor University global health mission. The project will cultivate culturally competent consumer health literature to support child and adult patient care and health fair activities for the Summer 2023 Baylor School of Nursing trip to Ndola, Zambia.
The Librarians without Borders® Ursula Poland International Scholarship assists in educating and training a US or Canadian health sciences librarian for an international health sciences library project. Member are encouraged to apply for 2024 scholarship by November 15, 2023.
