Overview

The Research Training Institute Fellowship Program for Health Sciences Librarians (RTI) of the Medical Library Association (MLA) is a virtual continuing education program that provides advanced research methods training and an intensive level of support for health sciences librarians to design, conduct and successfully disseminate a research project.

The RTI Fellowship Program offers a unique and highly effective training model that includes:

  • A series of online modules over a one-year period that align with the various stages of the research process.
  • A full year of mentoring and support by faculty and peer coaches as participants complete a research project during the institute year.
  • A training model that is designed to meet the special needs of practicing health sciences librarians and other professionals who provide health information, support and services in a wide variety of work settings.
  • A curriculum that focuses on advanced research methods and emphasizes theoretical frameworks and digital research dissemination.
  • A faculty that consists of 6 research experts assisted by 5 peer coaches who are fellows from previous RTI institutes.
  • A membership in an online network of librarian-researchers (RTI community of practice).
  • An opportunity to present a poster and presentation at the MLA annual meeting.
  • Many scholarship opportunities and reduced tuition fees.
  • 48 MLA continuing education (CE) contact hours.

The RTI training program was made possible in part by the Institute of Museum and Library Services.
