Facilitators will guide participants through a series of learning activities designed to achieve session objectives. This session is meant to be a springboard for continued learning. Materials for continued learning will be provided.
Join your colleagues to discuss LGBTQIA+ inclusive language and practices in a safe learning space. Together, we will explore the basics of vocabulary, pronoun usage, gender and sexual identities, intersectionality, and privilege. Participants will engage in reflection, discussion, and scenario-based learning in an intensive, fast-paced session facilitated by librarians knowledgeable in Safe Zone training.
We will include List of Resources and handouts to use during the class.
Learning Outcomes
By the end of this course, you will be able to:
- Identify LGBTQIA+ inclusive and affirming terminology and pronouns
- Differentiate between gender and sexuality
- Differentiate between biological sex, gender identity, gender expression, and attraction
- Recognize privilege and barriers
