NIH Data Management and Sharing Policy Overview

This class will provide a background and context to understand the NIH Data Management and Sharing Policy, as well as to provide insight into which aspects of the policy are most pertinent to librarians. Learners will be able to explain the importance of the NIH DMSP, highlight the areas where their work may be impacted by it, and assist researchers with adhering to it.

This course is an approved elective for the Level I Data Services Specialization.

Learning Objectives

  • Explain what data sharing is and why it is important for research.
  • Provide a detailed overview of the NIH Data Management and Sharing Policy.
  • Share tools and resources that are helpful for sharing data and creating data management plans.

Agenda

The one hour session will include:

  • provide a background and context to understand the NIH Data Management and Sharing Policy
  • provide insight into which aspects of the policy are most pertinent to librarians.
  • Discussion of areas where librarian’s work may be impacted by the policy and how to assist researchers with adhering to it.
