MLA ’26 Milwaukee Library & Museum Guide and JRR Tolkien Collection Private Tour
Milwaukee has a wide variety of libraries and museums to explore, from art and architecture to the natural world, and the history of Harley–Davidson to a vast collection of bobbleheads.
Most of these libraries and museums are less than a mile from the Baird Center. To help you find them, consult the local assistance committee’s Google Map or check out Visit Milwaukee. Watch MLAConnect for more posts on these cultural attractions.
Since 1957, Marquette University has owned the original manuscripts for J.R.R. Tolkien’s The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings. A small private tour is being offered for MLA attendees. The event on Tuesday, May 19, at 4:30 p.m. begins with a presentation by the collection’s curator, who will talk about the manuscripts on display and provide insights into Tolkien as an author. Afterwards, visitors will have ample time to view these treasures more closely.
Please note that Raynor Library is not open to the public, and only to MLA members who register for the tour will be admitted. Space is limited to 25 attendees.
