Make Your Plans to Celebrate National Medical Librarians Month (NMLM)

Submitted by: Tomi Gunn

Each October, we shine a spotlight on health information professionals during National Medical Librarians Month (NMLM). This is your time to celebrate! Help recognize the invaluable role you play in advancing medicine, supporting research, and empowering patients with the information you provide.

Behind evidence-based decisions, systematic reviews, and well-informed patients is a medical librarian ensuring access to credible, timely, and accurate information. Whether you’re guiding a clinician through a complex search, teaching students how to navigate databases, or reviewing AI-generated content for reliability—your work matters. This should be celebrated year-round but especially in October.

Use the this year’s theme: Better Information. Better Decisions with supporting marketing materials on the NMLM page to create posters, flyers and email signatures.

How You Can Celebrate

  1. Display Posters
Download and display official NMLM posters in your library, hospital, or academic center. Don’t forget your contact info.
  2. Update Your Email Signature
Add an NMLM banner to your email signature to raise awareness with every message you send. It’s a small change that makes a big impact.
  3. Get Social
Use hashtags like #NMLMand #medlibs to join the conversation on social media. Like, comment, and share posts from your peers and official MLA accounts. Tag your colleagues and celebrate their contributions.
  4. Host a Mini-Event
Organize a lunch-and-learn, a trivia contest, or a “Meet Your Health Information Professional” pop-up booth. Use it as a chance to educate your community about the services you and your library offer.

Tell us how you’re planning to celebrate the month!
