Call for 2024 JMLA Virtual Projects
The Journal of the Medical Library Association (JMLA) Virtual Projects Section Advisory Committee is seeking current, innovative, and notable technology projects in health sciences libraries for the 2025 JMLA Virtual Projects Section. The Virtual Project Section appears on an annual basis in an issue of JMLA and recognizes projects that exemplify the range and direction of current technology developments in health sciences libraries. Earlier this year, the Virtual Project Section was moved from October to January, so this edition is planned for January 2025.
To be considered for the Virtual Projects Section, submit a 200-word abstract describing your virtual project, including why it is innovative/notable, project scope, timeline, and assessment of the project. Also provide relevant project resources such as images or URLs (if available) that describe or demonstrate the project. Technology projects must have been implemented within the past two years. Find more information about the submission process and author guidelines for Virtual Projects.
Send your submissions to the Virtual Projects Section Editor, Emily Hurst at ehurst@hshsl.umaryland.edu, by Friday, August 30, 2024.
Submissions of virtual projects may demonstrate either the implementation of a new technology or a new application of an older technology. These projects should demonstrate how health sciences libraries have leveraged technology to manage and create new collections or services to improve user communities. Examples of current technology trends of interest include but are not limited to:
- Practical applications of Artificial Intelligence
- Digital Diversity Inclusion & Accessibility
- Coding or Programming Applications
- Hybrid or Online Teaching
- Data Related Services
You can also review previous Virtual Projects published in the October issues of JMLA from 2012 through 2023. 2024 Virtual Projects appeared in the April 2024 issue.
Unsure if your project aligns with Virtual Projects? Ask us! All are welcome to reach out to Virtual Projects Section Editor, Emily Hurst at ehurst@hshsl.umaryland.edu for help with their submission.
Please consider sharing your knowledge and experience implementing a new technology to contribute value to your library and encourage and guide your library colleagues!
