Before becoming involved with the Medical Library Association, Maria was an active member of the ALA and ACRL. She has held leadership roles within the New Jersey Academic Librarians (NJAL) – College and University Section of the New Jersey Library Association and the New Jersey Chapter of ACRL. Most recently, she served as the NJAL President (2024–25). She has also enjoyed serving as a mentor in the ACRL Mentorship Program and is an active member of the MLA Liberty Chapter.
My path to medical librarianship began during the COVID‑19 pandemic, as libraries faced a wave of significant layoffs. Recognizing the high demand for expertise in the healthcare field, I completed a Medical Coding and Billing degree. When an opportunity opened at Rutgers Health Sciences Libraries, I was excited to bring together my interests in technology, academic librarianship, and the health sciences. Over the past three years, I’ve gained deep insight into the field of medical librarianship.
If elected to the New Member Caucus office, I look forward to sharing my experiences, supporting colleagues who are new to MLA, and helping to foster a welcoming, collaborative environment where members can grow and thrive.
