The academy recognizes exemplary professional performance throughout a health sciences librarian’s career. Academy membership is awarded to health information professionals who have distinguished themselves in important areas of the 6 professional competency areas and through continuing education, job experience, and leadership in the profession.


Applicants applying for Senior level for the first time, must have five years of professional experience in the  information field following the master's degree and must submit 80 points in professional accomplishments in the last five years. Of these, no more than 50 points may be sponsored instruction.. At least 5 of the 80 professional accomplishment points must be from professional organization activities--not necessarily MLA.

If you are renewing your Senior AHIP membership at the same level, you only need submit your AHIP Points Tally Form showing 50 points of health sciences-related professional accomplishments in the last five years. At least 5 of the 50 professional accomplishment points must be from professional organization activities--not necessarily MLA.
