Don't Forget to Pack for Portland

Packing for an annual conference can be complicated. Download and follow this list of items to pack for MLA '24! Check out Tips for First-Time Attendees

  1. Chargers for all devices: earbuds, iPad or tablet, laptop, and phone.
  2. Meeting Planner (include appointments for meals and drinks).
  3. Light raincoat or umbrella.
  4. Business cards: lots of opportunities for giveaways.
  5. Sweater or jacket for the heavily air-conditioned Convention Center rooms.
  6. Notebook to take extra notes during meetings and program events.
  7. Comfortable walking shoes to get from the hotel to the Convention Center or anywhere else in Portland.
  8. Extra canvas tote to bring home the vendor giveaways and souvenirs for staff and family.
  9. Photos of your loved ones to share.
  10. Handicrafts for during meetings: knitting, needlework, etc.
  11. Cash for the splurge purchase or when sharing a meal or tipping.
  12. Room on your credit card for essentials and extras.
  13. Phone numbers or email addresses of folks back home.
  14. Extra dose or two of prescription medicine, especially allergy medications.
  15. Glasses: reading glasses, sunglasses, or extra contact lenses.
  16. Earplugs and eye masks if you're sharing a hotel room.
  17. Your special tea bags or salad dressing.
  18. Snacks: granola bars, rice cakes, or chocolate.
  19. Jeans and other comfortable clothes after a long day at meetings.
