Note from the Editor

I hope you are enjoying the MLA Annual Meeting virtual options and are getting ready for travel to New Orleans for the in-person conference. Some of our MLAConnect editors will be at the conference and would love to talk with you about publishing your work and ideas. We would be glad to share announcements and other information you want to share with the membership at large. Speaking of editors, we have openings on our editorial board.

Editor Openings

MLAConnect is seeking 2 coeditors to cover the Information Management Hub and 2 coeditors to cover the Clinical Support Hub. We are seeking dynamic members who like to keep current with the profession and spread the word about research, special projects, resources, and more.

Hub editors are responsible for gathering and creating content from the caucuses that are of interest to the hub and larger MLA community. The weekly time commitment averages an hour a week. Articles are due from each editor about every 8 weeks on a stagged 4-week rotation. This 3-year commitment allows the person to earn points toward membership in the Academy of Health Information Professionals upon successful completion of service.

I want to take a moment to acknowledge Kimberly MacKenzie, PhD, MLIS, and Marie T. Ascher, MS, MPH, for their service to MLAConnect.

We are also recruiting for an editor for I Am MLA. JJ Pionke, MA, MSI, led this effort as it got off the ground and we are most grateful. I Am MLA has been featured in the weekly MLAConnect email over the past couple of years. I hope you have learned more about your colleagues and have a greater appreciation for what each person brings to the profession. You can be part of this campaign simply by filling out the online form. The I Am MLA editor’s role is to promote recruitment of members to complete the form, lightly edit the completed forms, and arrange the publication schedule.

If you are interested in becoming a hub editor or I Am MLA editor for MLAConnect, please reach out to me at christine.willis@choa.org. If you have questions, I will be glad to answer them.

Publish in MLAConnect—Save yourself time and emails

MLAConnect will gladly publish announcements that you would like to share with the wider MLA membership. Have you found yourself sending the same message to multiple caucus listservs? Save yourself time by sending your message to your primary caucus and then sending it to MLAConnect to share as an announcement. It will be posted on the Announcement blog and shared with the membership in the weekly email.

We are creating a similar blog for Study Opportunities as well. This could assist with data collection by knowing how many people received the survey and again, save you time from sending it to multiple caucuses. By all means, if it is a study that is geared toward a specific group then share it with them, but if you are looking to reach many MLA members, we are here to help.

As a reminder, there is a Job Board that members can use to place an ad if you have an opening at your library.
