MLA Medical Humanities Caucus Statement

The Medical Humanities Caucus of MLA stands in outrage at the murder of George Floyd in Minneapolis, the cruel killings of Breonna Taylor in Louisville and Ahmaud Arbery in Georgia, and the continued violent response to protests against police brutality and state-sanctioned violence. We stand in solidarity with the African American Medical Librarians Alliance (AAMLA) Caucus (June 1, 2020, statement), our fellow MLA members and caucuses, and communities impacted by institutionalized racism across the country. We support the Black Lives Matter movement and the dismantling of institutionalized racism and state-sanctioned violence. As librarians vested in the value of the humanities in the practice of medicine, we cannot stand silent and pledge to use our platform to elevate Black voices and experiences.
