MLA Technical Services Caucus Statement

The Technical Services Caucus (TSC) stands in solidarity with our colleagues of the African American Medical Librarians Alliance (AAMLA) Caucus and MLA in speaking out against systemic racism and police brutality in the wake of the deaths of George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, Ahmaud Arbery, and countless others.

As part of MLA, the TSC recognizes the importance of equality and strives to celebrate diversity. The TSC looks to the example of the late Chayma Kincy, one of our influential members who served as a mentor to young librarians [1]. Kincy promoted the profession of librarianship and supervised several interns at the Cataloging and Metadata Center of the University of California–Los Angeles (UCLA) Library.

We continue Kincy’s legacy by welcoming and encouraging young people of color to explore this specialty of the library profession.

Noreen L. Mulcahy, AHIP, Chair, on behalf of TSC Leadership
