Check Out These Libraries, Archives, Museums, and Bookstores!

Due to COVID 19, these tours have been cancelled, please visit virtually by checking out the websites for the these libraries.

Portland is full of wonderful libraries, archives, and bookstores, and we hope that you find time to visit these special places and collections virtually to get a feel for our community.  Please consult the organization’s website for any updates since we compiled this list as many libraries have changed their hours and services.

  • The category “Ready to Receive” reflects those who responded to our call with specific information for MLA visitors. These are grouped by type of library.
  • “Also Nearby” are other institutions that welcome visitors.
  • “Regrets for Now” notes those libraries that were under renovation this summer, but may be of interest in the future.
  • Our list ends with “Taking Books Home,” highlighting a few of Portland’s many bookstores, almost all of whom will ship to you!

All entries include the address and the distance from the Hilton conference hotel as well as the hours. Additionally, the meeting app and MLANET will have a Google Map that includes a layer for libraries, archives, and bookstores which allows you to choose directions by car, by public transit, or by foot. If you are using GPS software, look at the directions before leaving the hotel as sometimes the buildings and other factors can interfere with the signal.
