The NEW MLA Annual Meeting Travel Grant

MLA '20 logo

There are a variety of reasons of why attending the MLA annual meeting is beneficial and travel assistance is so valuable. Here is what some members have shared:

“The annual meeting provides me the opportunity to present my submitted poster, to network with colleagues, to share experience, and to develop future collaborations.”

“Being awarded a travel grant will increase my access to new trends and bold ideas that demonstrate the value, impact, and benefits of health sciences...libraries and librarians.”

“A grant will ease the financial burden of travel to the annual meeting on my institution and myself and will add merit to my application for a full professorship.”

“Travel to the annual meeting will allow me to participate in committee meetings, attend Super Saturday as a caucus...domain delegate, and learn from my colleagues by attending their presentations.”

MLA’s objective for 2020 is to increase travel support that is offered to members and ensure a broader group of members receive travel assistance. The number of annual meeting travel grants has been increased to at least thirty-five for MLA ’20 in Portland. If additional sponsors sign up before the deadline, the number of grants may even increase. Eligibility for the grant has been modified to include a greater variety of librarians with different levels of experience and professional practice backgrounds.

Grant details and the link to apply can be found on the MLA ’20 website. The application deadline is March 2, 2020.
