Official Meeting Blogger: Immersion Sessions

Did you get a chance to attend an immersion session while you were attending MLA’19?  This relatively new format offers yet another way for us to network and learn from our colleagues’ experiences. The immersion sessions at MLA’19 were focused around seven key subject areas:

  • Information Services
  • Information Management
  • Education
  • Professionalism & Leadership
  • Innovation & Research
  • Clinical Support
  • Global Health & Health Equity

Many of the sessions I attended included interactive elements that really helped make the subject matter come alive. Question and answer sessions also led to lively discussion. Personally, I brought home several new ideas that I’m eager to put into action. I also met other librarians who share the same interests or who have experienced similar challenges. As a solo hospital librarian, I don’t have time to completely reinvent the wheel, so this type of focused networking is invaluable to me. Whether you are interested in systematic reviews, evidence-based practice instruction, reflection or one of the other topics covered, I hope you enjoyed these sessions as much as I did. I’m looking forward to attending more immersion sessions in the future.
