Events and Tours in Chicago

May in Chicago is a busy time and there is no shortage of things to do. MLA ’19 is located within walking distance (or a quick taxi or CTA ride) to so many classic Chicago activities.

Hamilton: An American Musical is playing at the CIBC Theater, just a 20-minute walk from MLA ’19. Hamilton tells the story of Alexander Hamilton, long considered a founding father of the United States, incorporating hip hop, rap, and traditional-style show tunes. Buy tickets through Ticketmaster or take a chance to win free tickets in the lottery. Tickets range between $75 and $200 early on, but closer to the show date the prices rise sharply.

Art Institute Chicago is a classic art museum just a 10-minute walk from MLA ’19. The museum is open daily from 10:30 a.m.–5:00 p.m, and until 8:00 p.m. on Thursdays. Tickets begin at $25.00 for general admission to the museum’s galleries and non-ticketed exhibitions. Ticketed exhibitions are an extra fee, and audio guides are available for $7.

The Chicago Architecture Center is just steps from MLA ’19 and offers Must-See Chicago, a 1.5-hour introductory walking tour to Chicago. Tickets cost $26 (plus tip) and a $3.50 Ventra pass for the Chicago “L” train is needed. Passes can be purchased at the Chicago Architecture Center Box Office, online, or at most CTA stops. Order your tour tickets online or in person. This tour includes admission into the Chicago Architecture Center.
