We hope to see you in May at MLA ’19: Elevate, taking place from May 3–8, 2019, in beautiful and bustling downtown Chicago, IL.
Did you know? The four red stars on Chicago’s flag represent four major events in the city’s history: the 1812 Battle of Fort Dearborn, the Great Fire of 1871, the World’s Columbian Exposition of 1893, and the Century of Progress Exposition of 1933–34.
In addition to its rich history, Chicago is always growing and changing. Recent attractions added since MLA last held its annual meeting in Chicago in 2014 include:
- Maggie Daley Park
- new collections and exhibitions at the Art Institute of Chicago, Field Museum, and Museum of Contemporary Art
- countless new restaurants, breweries, cocktail bars, and coffee shops to sample
As well as many tried-and-true favorites:
- shopping on the Magnificent Mile;
- catching a Cubs or White Sox game;
- architectural boat tours;
- breathtaking views of the city from observation decks at Willis Tower and 360 Chicago (formerly, the John Hancock Observatory)
