Chapter News: The 68th SC/MLA Annual Meeting: Experience the Magic!

scmla-orlando-2018-oct25-28.jpgThe Southern Chapter of MLA (SC/MLA) will hold its 68th annual meeting in sunny Orlando, FL, at the Wyndham Lake Buena Vista Resort in the Disney Springs area, from October 25–28, 2018. This year’s theme is “Experience the Magic: Libraries of Tomorrow,” and the program features speakers, continuing education courses, papers, and posters contemplating the future of academic and hospital libraries. And don’t forget the SC/MLA Banquet—always a favorite event—on Saturday, October 27.

The meeting’s speakers include MLA President-Elect Julia Esparza, AHIP, Medical Center Library, Louisiana State University Health–Shreveport, who will give a talk on the future of libraries; Shirley Zhao, Spencer S. Eccles Health Sciences Library, University of Utah–Salt Lake City, who will dive into data management; and Derrick Jefferson, communication librarian, American University, who will discuss his research and experience in diversity and inclusion. Attendees can also choose from among four fabulous continuing education offerings to learn how to transform needs assessments into marketing plans, analyze qualitative data, promote library events successfully, or communicate effectively in clinical environments.

For more information and updates about the SC/MLA’s annual meeting, visit the event website or the SC/MLA blog, Southern Salutations. We hope to see you in Orlando!
