MLA President Michelle Kraft gets in on the action
Over 100 people attended the open forum, “Revitalizing the Professional Competencies for Lifelong Learning” in Austin. Attendees weighed in on the direction they would like to see MLA take in responding to our professional development needs by asking questions and jotting their thoughts on pieces of paper posted around the room. As the papers filled, themes emerged, including collaboration, leadership, education, and research.
We were excited by the level of engagement at the open forum, and we hope to continue this focus on member needs throughout the project of refreshing the professional competencies (see goal 3). The task force will use the thoughts and comments from the open forum to inform a survey that will go out to MLA members in July. Please be sure to respond to the survey when you receive the link!
The task force will be collaborating with the Research Task Force, the Continuing Education Committee, and the Medical Library Education Section to organize the competencies and finalize the document.
