MLA'18 Rocked for Me

I attend MLA each year with three major goals: pick up some new pearls of wisdom, make new friends, and see old friends. I successfully accomplished these goals at MLA'18!

In the new pearls goal category, I plan to try PubMed Labs, the new tryout area for PubMed 2.0. I will investigate replicating NYU’s project, which brought an art museum educator to work with nurses. Additionally, I want to bring health literacy to the launderette, similar to the NNLM team's work in Minnesota. I also will talk to my NNLM about enrolling communities in All of Us and personally enroll my family. I think I understand the MLA reorganization plan and feel it deserves a try.

For my new friends goal, I look for MLA New Member ribbons and make the members feel welcome. I so enjoy having a Colleague Connection. It was great this year that Vicki is in my neighborhood and will also join our MLA Chapter. Matt is also closeby. I enjoyed my conversation with Scott. I met Olivia and will correspond with her about her unique nurse residency program. Finally, I enjoyed meeting Jessica, the moderator of my Special Content Session.

It is so special to see old friends. I had three major highlights at MLA this year. I caught up with work and family happenings with my roommate, Louise. What a joy for me to see Scott walking and feeling good. My visit with Lynn and him was very special. But, playing tambourine with my old, old friends, Cathy and Holly, at the Tuesday night talent show trumps everything. Cathy and Holly have worked together at Lake Health in Ohio for 35 years and I know them for almost that long. This year many people got to see the very talented side of Cathy. I was so delighted to share the spotlight with them.

Looking forward to MLA'19 in Chicago and fulfill my three goals again.
