On July 13th, the Senate approved the nomination of Carla Hayden for Librarian of Congress.
When nominating Ms. Hayden, President Obama pointed out that "Her understanding of the pivotal role that emerging technologies play in libraries will be essential in leading the Library of Congress as it continues to modernize its infrastructure and promote open access and full participation in today's digital world."
MLA and AAHSL supported Ms. Hayden’s nomination earlier this year and during the June 29th Joint MLA/AAHSL Legislative Task Force Capitol Hill visits.
Ms. Hayden is the first African American and first woman to serve in this role. She also is the first librarian to be nominated for the position in more than sixty years.
