Alice L. Walton School of Medicine (AWSOM) is seeking experienced, motivated, and dedicated leaders and educators to participate in the design and delivery of an innovative four-year medical school curriculum that engages medical students in active and novel approaches to learning.
Founded in 2021 by philanthropist Alice Walton, the School of Medicine, (formerly named Whole Health School of Medicine and Health Sciences), will offer a four-year, medical degree-granting program that integrates conventional medicine with whole-person principles and self-care practices. Taught by leading medical practitioners and scientific minds, this first-of-its-kind medical school will help students rise to the health challenges of the 21st century with a focus on mental, emotional, physical, and spiritual health and will include an attached clinic for clinical training in these concepts. The School of Medicine filed its request for applicant status with Liaison Committee Medical Education in July 2022.
Currently in the design development phase, construction of the 154,000 square-foot building will begin in Spring 2023, with the goal of welcoming the first class to the completed building in Fall 2025, pending accreditation. AWSOM will be located east of Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art in Bentonville, Arkansas and connected through the trails to its sister organization, Whole Health Institute.

Faculty and staff members will contribute to the development and rollout of the ARCHES curriculum, which is built on evidence-based approaches to teaching and learning. It includes the following six core elements:

- Embracing Whole Health
- Science of Medicine
All six areas of the curriculum will be interwoven throughout the four-years of training.
About the Position
The Director of Library and Information Services (LIS) will have the unique opportunity to build an academic medical library from the ground up. This will include procuring library holdings, hiring and supervising the LIS team, and assisting with the design and teaching of the medical school research and health informatics curricula, among other areas. The Director will ensure that all members of the student body, faculty, staff, have ready access and support when it comes to gathering and using reliable, up-to-date, and evidence-based information related to all aspects of medicine, medical education, and the various elements of whole health. The Director of LIS will report to the Vice Dean for Education, Dr. Adam Rindfleisch.

Qualifications
Required
- ALA accredited Master’s degree in library/information science, or other relevant advanced degree
- Minimum of 5 years of progressive and effective administrative responsibility in research or clinical library, including management of personnel and financial resources
- Demonstrated skills in providing research services or support, including database searching and formulating search strategies
- Experience with health sciences libraries and the needs of health sciences academic centers, professional programs, and health sciences research
- Demonstrated initiative and flexibility to adapting to the varied needs of a startup institution
- Exceptional attunement to detail
- Strong teaching skills
- Excellent oral and written communication skills, including experience with writing for publication
Preferred
- Undergraduate or advanced degree in a field related to life or health sciences
- Seven or more years of library experience
- Teaching experience specifically in a medical setting, including with health professionals who write for publication
- Strong background in evidence-based medicine education
- Work or educational experience with advanced/expert literature search techniques or systematic review development
- Background in statistical and research methods
- Membership in the Academy of Health Information Professionals at the Senior or Distinguished level
- Experience in securing donor and grant funding
Salary Information: $90,000-$140,000
