MLA ‘22 Update: Don’t Miss Your Chance to Submit Paper Abstracts and Immersion Sessions

Time is running out to submit your paper abstracts and immersion sessions for the MLA ’22 annual conference. The deadline to submit is October 27.

Share your professional research and explorations with your colleagues and contribute to the knowledge of the profession. This is a great opportunity to earn professional credibility, have your work appreciated, and have your voice heard.

Have an idea for a paper or immersion session and need some support in bringing it to life? Your MLA colleagues are here to help. Check out the FAQs and see if your questions can be answered there. Reach out to the working group responsible for reviewing the abstracts with questions about submission criteria or the review process.

Interested in collaborating on your immersion session but haven’t identified colleagues to partner with yet? Start by reaching out to MLA’s caucuses. MLA members can join any caucus and immediately connect to other librarians with similar interests. You can post messages to any caucus to locate potential collaborators or obtain help in making your idea happen.

Here’s some basic information about the papers and immersion sessions.

Contributed papers are ten- to fifteen-minute presentations. Paper presenters have the chance to indicate their preference for in-person or virtual attendance. Papers fall into two broad categories:

  • Program description abstracts describe the creation, improvement, and assessment of products, programs, technologies, administrative practices, or services conducted by librarians and information professionals.
  • Research abstracts report on designing, conducting, and analyzing a research project.

Immersion sessions are up to 75-minute “deep dives” into a single topic. The format may include multiple people collaborating, including interactive panel presentation, role-playing, gamification, discussions, working groups, or other audience engagement activities. (Immersion sessions require in-person attendance.)

We look forward to hearing from you!
