The inaugural Research Training Institute (RTI) was held July 9–13, 2018, at the Library of Health Sciences-Chicago, University of Illinois–Chicago. During the RTI, nationally recognized faculty led the fellows through intensive research training and education. The five-day program engaged participants with readings, theoretical foundations, opportunities for discussion about research methods and data collection and analysis, hands-on activities, and peer-to-peer feedback. Participants will also have a yearlong capstone experience of conducting a research project at their home institutions, culminating in a presentation at MLA ’19 in May 2019. The feedback received so far is that everyone left feeling supported by the wonderful training that they received and new relationships that they formed and that they feel empowered to begin their own research work.
