New MLA Election Results are In! Ruth Holst, AHIP, FMLA to Serve as 2009/10 MLA President-elect
The Medical Library Association (MLA) is pleased to announce that member ballots have been counted for the 2009/10 election, and that the next MLA president-elect, incoming MLA Board members, and Nominating Committee Members have been determined. The newly-elected officials will begin their terms following MLA '09, May 15-20, 2009, in Honolulu, HI.
Ruth Holst, AHIP, FMLA, associate director, National Network of Libraries of Medicine (NNLM), Greater Midwest Region, Library of the Health Sciences, University of Illinois-Chicago, was selected by the membership to serve as MLA president-elect. This is Holst's third time being elected to serve the association. She served on the MLA Board of Directors from 2001-2004, during which time she served as board secretary. She was also elected to serve on the 1996, 1989, and 1982 MLA Nominating Committees. Holst has served as chair of numerous MLA committees and task forces including the Books Panel, the Janet Doe Lectureship Jury, and the Task Force on Expert Searching. The association has bestowed many honors on Holst throughout her impressive career, including Distinguished Member status in the Academy of Health Information Professionals (AHIP) and in 2002 she was elevated to Fellow status in the association. In 1990, Holst was the first hospital librarian to present the Janet Doe Lecture at an MLA annual meeting, an honor granted to those in the profession with a unique perspective on the history or philosophy of medical librarianship. Holst served as editor of the MLA publication The Medical Library Association Guide to Managing Health Care Libraries which is considered required reading for those in the health sciences information profession

and Kathleen Ann McKibbon, director and associate professor of Master's of Science
in eHealth, Department of Clinical Epidemiology and Biostatistics, Michael G.
DeGroote School of Medicine, Faculty of Health Sciences, McMaster University,
Hamilton, ON, Canada.
