Toronto's Fitness Mosaic - by LAC Co-chair Vanessa Kitchin

Any time I have attended a conference, my first thought has always been when and where will I exercise? Luckily, Toronto is an amazing city for fitness enthusiasts; exercise classes abound and every type is covered. From spinning to boxing to hybrid classes such as Barre, TRX and Lagree (a cardio-heavy take on Pilates), the mosaic that is our city translates to its fitness industry. Most fitness centres offer students major discounts and promotional prices for their first week – a great opportunity for conference attendees who would like the group lift of a class or the specialized knowledge Toronto’s amazing trainers have.

If classes and gyms are not your forte, T.O. also has glorious running trails. Less than a kilometre away from the Royal York hotel is the Toronto Waterfront Trail. This will take you east all the way to the unforgettable Beach neighbourhood or west to High Park. The Royal York also has an amazing facility equipped with a pool and registered massage therapists.

Don’t forget - after you spend all day expending mental energy at the conference and then working up a sweat in whatever way suits you biomechanically, there is always late night Poutine to refuel for the next day.

Thank you for this Vanessa. I hope to try out the walking trails at least. And if I get a spare minute I might have a go at the pilates hybrid!
