Queen Nefertari in New Orleans

When I was in grade school, the King Tut exhibit came to the New Orleans Museum of Art and it was amazing! I was fascinated by the strong blues (lapis lazuli) and the Canopic jars and the boy king’s death mask. So I am very excited to say that a new Egyptian exhibit will be in New Orleans during our meeting: Queen Nefertari’s Egypt will be at NOMA through July 17, 2022. Nefertari’s reign is about 50 years after Tutankhamen’s; all items are from the Museo Egizio in Torino, Italy.

The museum will be open 7 days a week for the exhibit and pre-booking tickets is recommended; also the museum will be open until 9pm on Tuesdays. Café Noma (the museum restaurant) will be featuring Egyptian dishes along with their regular menu.

NOMA is located inside of City Park which also features, the Sculpture Garden, the Botanical Gardens, Storyland, Carousel Gardens Amusement Park, City Putt, golf courses, tennis courts, soccer fields and paddle boat rentals. It is big… 1300 acres big, making it one of the largest municipal parks in the United States. Some of the oak trees in the park are estimated to be 800 years old. Learn more about the park.

If Egyptian art/history isn’t your thing, there is probably another institution or exhibit that might be. Below is a list of other museums, historical houses, and parks along with any special exhibits that might be happening during our meeting. The categories are Art, Culture, For Profit, History, and Parks/Gardens.
