The JMLA Editor-in-Chief Search Committee and MLA Board of Directors are pleased to announce the appointment of Jill T. Boruff, AHIP, Liaison Librarian, Schulich Library of Physical Sciences, Life Sciences, and Engineering, McGill University, Montreal, QC, Canada and Michelle Kraft, AHIP, FMLA, Medical Library Director, Cleveland Clinic Foundation Library, Cleveland, OH, as Co-Editors-in-Chief for the Journal of the Medical Library Association (JMLA).

Recognizing the growth in responsibilities of the editor-in-chief role over the last half decade, the JMLA Co-Editors-in-Chief will share leadership, with one role focusing on journal operations such as handling manuscripts, supervising junior editors, collaborating with the production editor, and the other role focusing on strategic initiatives such as leading the editorial board, managing journal work groups, and setting strategic goals for the journal.

Jill T. Boruff will assume the Journal Operations Editor position. In addition to her experience as an author of multiple JMLA articles, Jill has been a long-serving peer reviewer for JMLA and has previously served as a member of its Editorial Board. Jill currently serves as an Assistant Editor for JMLA. Through this role, Jill brings experience handling manuscripts, working with authors and reviewers, as well as using the OJS publishing platform.

Michelle Kraft will assume the Strategic Initiative Editor position. Michelle brings the experience of having served on the JMLA Editorial Board and as the JMLA Virtual Projects Section Editor during Katherine Akers’ and Alexander Carroll’s tenures. Michelle also brings a track record of leadership within MLA, having previously served as MLA President in 2016 and as a member of MLA’s Board of Directors 2012-2017.

The MLA Board also thanks Alexander J. Carroll, AHIP, Sarah Shannon Stevenson Science & Engineering Library, Vanderbilt University, Nashville, TN, who has effectively served as Interim JMLA Editor-in-Chief since September 2021. Alex will continue to serve on the JMLA Editorial Board as Associate Editor.

While Jill and Michelle will assume their co-editor roles immediately, they will work with Alex and MLA headquarters staff members to transition JMLA leadership over the course of the Summer.

The Journal of the Medical Library Association (JMLA) is the premier journal in health sciences librarianship. JMLA is an open-access, peer-reviewed journal that advances the practice and research knowledgebase of health sciences librarianship and is supported by the Medical Library Association and its members.
