MLA Letter to ECRI Institute regarding National Guideline Clearinghouse

Today, Karen Schoelles, MD, SM, FACP, Director of ECRI Institute-Penn Medicine Evidence-based Practice Center and Director, Health Technology Assessment Consulting Services thanked President Beverly Murphy, AHIP, FMLA for her August 2nd letter. Murphy thanked the ECRI Institute for its commitment to continue providing access to the vital information found in the National Guideline Clearinghouse. She urged ECRI to strive to keep costs as reasonable as possible, given the importance of this resource to the clinicians and students, and the impact of ready access to quality clinical practice guidelines on positive health outcomes.

Dr. Schoelles commented that ECRI is striving to get a wide enough subscription base and other avenues of non-federal support that will enable them to keep their costs reasonable. She expressed ECRI's understanding of the financial constraints on libraries, and hopes that the service they provide will ease the burden of identifying trustworthy guidelines.
