MLA Latinx Caucus: Official Statement Against Acts of Violence & Hate

This statement reflects the opinion of the Latinx Caucus of MLA, and does not necessarily reflect the official position of the Medical Library Association (MLA).

The Latinx Caucus of the Medical Library Association continues to unequivocally condemn acts of violence and hate towards marginalized communities of color. In light of recent events, we want to express our condemnation of the increased hate and violence towards Asian American/Pacific Islander (AAPI) communities.

We support our AAPI colleagues and stand in solidarity with them. Violence and aggression against members of the (AAPI) community should not be tolerated. We, the Latinx Caucus recognize the distress, fear, and anxiety these acts of crime cause for members of the AAPI communities. We stand with them in condemning such acts, and we pledge to support our AAPI colleagues and friends. We commit to being proactive bystanders against micro and macro aggressions and biased acts of hostility. We commit to taking action and being a voice for those silenced.

In a civil society, there is no place for hate. We believe in embracing diversity, equity, and inclusion. As a minoritized group, we advocate for promoting anti-racist practices to eliminate discrimination, white terrorism, and other forms of oppression.

As members of the Latinx Caucus, we will:

iEstamos unidos!
