Dear all,
As I prepared the ICS Annual Report to submit to the MLA Board, I fully appreciated that the ICS truly had a productive year! Following the setting of ICS priorities for 2013/14 this past July, through a combination of hard work and dedication of all ICS members, I am happy to report that most of our objectives were achieved and are detailed in the Annual Report.
Beyond what I submitted to the MLA Board, I would like to share some noteworthy items with you:
- ICS received a generous contribution from Tovah Reis in memory of her late husband Avraham. This generous donation strengthens the ICS’s treasury and allows us to plan and develop new activities to further our mission. In order to express our gratitude, please attend the International Visitors Reception at MLA 2014 (Sunday, May 18, 2014 6:00 pm -7:00 pm, Room: Regency C) to sign a “thank you” card to be delivered to Tovah after the meeting.
- On a related note, ICS made a contribution to the endowment for the Ysabel Bertolucci MLA Annual Meeting Grant. This grant will provide a scholarship to be awarded to a librarian involved in nursing, allied health, consumer health, or international librarianship to attend the annual MLA meeting. Ysabel was a valued member and beloved member of ICS. I hope that all of you will consider a donation to this grant in her honor – no matter how small – so that the scholarship will be fully funded. - In honor of our 25th year anniversary, a group of members wrote an article to highlight ICS accomplishments. A concise version will be published in the May issue of MLA News. The complete version is now posted on the new ICS website.
I know that you are looking forward to attending all of the great ICS activities planned for MLA 2014 in Chicago. Activity organizers will update you with further details over the next couple of weeks. However, the key event this year will be the ICS 25th birthday party at the International Visitors Reception, which is sponsored by the New England Journal of Medicine (NEJM). Please drop by their booth and thank them for their support for ICS!
In addition, please remember to send in any pictures and/or other objects showing your international activities to me for display at the reception. This will let the attendees to get to know more about ICS and our members!
Last, but not the least, please bring your coffee and breakfast, and attend the ICS Business Meeting scheduled for Sunday, May 18, 2014 at 7:30 am to 8:55 am in Room: Toronto. Attend to help us to review the past year and plan for the future. The agenda will be shared with you all in a couple of weeks.
